Coronavirus is a contagious, potentially fatal disease that spreads rapidly. An update on this alarming disease.
It belongs to a family of viruses
Coronaviruses are part of a family of viruses that can cause a wide range of illnesses, from colds to severe lung infections. So far, two coronaviruses have caused serious epidemics in humans: SARS, which caused a global epidemic in 2002-2003, and the Mers-CoV in 2012.
Symptoms are diverse
The first symptoms are similar to those of the flu. The most commonly observed are a fever with chills, digestive disorders (including diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting). Other signs are shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.
It mainly affects fragile people
The coronavirus mainly infects patients with associated conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic heart disease, chronic kidney failure, and immunosuppressed individuals.
No treatment exists to date (Updates coming soon)
There is no “Conventional Treatment or Medication” for the Covid-19 until now. Taking antibiotics does not help because it is not a bacteria.
At the 1st months the remedies indicated were similar to those for the flu and it is advisable to rest and hydrate regularly in this case. Actually the majority of countries opt for an old Malaria medicine Hydroxychloroquine plus Azithromycin. This combination was significantly more efficient for COVID-19 elimination (but still controversial due to potential risks like ventricular Arrhythmia – more updates coming soon).
We highlight as well that some natural remedies are believed to bring high support and effectiveness against Coronavirus as it was the case of Influenza, Tuberculosis, SARS in the past. China has supported its contaminated patients by traditional Chinese medicine remedies.
It is transmitted by close contact
People can transmit the coronavirus to each other through close contact, with the virus particles usually spreading within a radius of one meter around an infected person. However, the virus is very fragile outside the human body, which means that it cannot be caught from a package or envelope.
It does not come from pets
In China, abandonment of pets has been reported due to the coronavirus, and there is currently no evidence that cats and dogs can be infected, although scientists suspect that the virus comes from several places where people live in close proximity to live or dead animals for human consumption (Wuhan market).
It has caused thousands of deaths
In mainland China, the number of people infected is in the tens of thousands. According to WHO data, the virus has caused to date 329,757 deaths worldwide (5,090,977 Coronaviruses cases / 2,025,878 Recovered).
Diagnosis is easy
The suspicion of diagnosis is currently based on the existence of signs of acute respiratory infection in a person exposed to the virus during the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms. A specific diagnostic test developed by the Institut Pasteur’s National Reference Centre for Respiratory Infections Viruses (including influenza) is also available.
Patient management is specific
Signs of respiratory infection in a person who has traveled or stayed in China, Singapore, South Korea, Iran or the regions of Lombardy and Veneto in Italy or the 100 contaminated countries signaled to date within 14 days before the onset of symptoms require appropriate management in one of the establishments identified for the management of possible and confirmed cases of MERS-CoV infections.
