sugaring wax hair removal Dr. Elix

The sugaring method has its followers. And we understand why, painless, ecological, economical and very efficient, this homemade hair removal technique has everything to make you melt.
A 100% natural method, sugaring hair removal has been used for more than 9,000 years before our era! Also known as “oriental wax”, it was highly prized by women subjected to the pharaoh.

Increasingly popular, it is easy to find a beautician offering this service. Alternatively, it is even possible to concoct your own sugar wax, also known as “caramel or home wax”.

Sugaring: what are the advantages?

The main advantage of sugar waxing is its natural composition, which contains no resin or chemicals.

As it is used lukewarm, it does not burn the skin and is easily removed with water, using a hot, damp towel, for example. No more long battles to remove sticky, gluey wax residue from skin and clothing. Very hygienic, it reduces the risk of bacteria growth. You don’t need a spatula or cotton strips to use it, and sugar wax can be used on varicose veins or even eczema-prone areas.

Sugar waxing is not very painful and respects hair growth. The wax is applied in the hair direction and then removed in the opposite sense. It even reduces ingrown hairs.

The wax can be used on fairly short hairs and promises more or less four weeks of tranquillity. The hairs grow finer and fewer in number. In addition, sugar has antiseptic virtues and helps to heal. As for lemon, it purifies while honey softens. Sugar wax also has an exfoliating action and leaves the skin soft.

How to make homemade sugar wax?

To make your own oriental wax, here are the steps to follow:

In a saucepan, mix the equivalent of two glasses of powder sugar (50 grams), half a glass of water, the juice of half a lemon, and two tablespoons of honey.

Heat over low heat until a homogeneous paste with a golden color is obtained.

Check the texture with your fingers. If it is thick and supple, the sugar wax is ready. Pour it on a flat surface to let it cool.

Once lukewarm, make a medium-sized ball and spread in small strips on the skin with your hand in the hair direction.
Remove with a quick movement in the opposite direction.

The advantage of sugar wax is that it can be kept for two months in an airtight container in the fridge. Just reheat it in a bain-marie or microwave, and you’re ready for a sugaring session.
